With the combination of very experienced baristas and with their home audience, Iceland was one the favorites of the Nordic Barista Cup 2004.
After the main competition day (Saturday) this was even more evident.
Below you can see how the Iclandic tema combined the different ingredients in their coffee drinks. This way you can try to make then yourself.
Throughout the entire preformance the team used an espresso blend consisting of:
- 40% washed Sumatra Gayo Mountain
- 40% Celebes Kalossi
- 20% Mexico Escuintla from Chiapas
The performance was divided into two themes – a child’s birthday party and a queen’s visit at a coffeebar (se competition elements)
For the child’s birthday the Icelandic team choosed to make
“Tutti Frutti” – a cold drink consisting of:
- Espresso
- Vanilla pudding
- Gerber baby food – fruit flavour
- “Friskamin”
- Frappe base
You mix all the ingredients into a shaker with ice and then you shake! Glass decoration: gummibears
“Healthy Wealthy” – a cold drink consisting of:
- Espresso
- Cardamom
- Low fat milk
- DaVinci Dulce de Leche syrup
You mix everything together and shake it with ice and then you stream it into the glass. Salt and sugar on the edge of the glass. Served with mango, sweetened “skyr” and pistaccios.
“Icy Spicy” – a cold drink consisting of:
- Espresso
- Ginger
- Lime zest
- Sugar
- Cream
The espresso is sweetened with sugar and chilled. You mix the rest of ingrediens shake it with ice. Pour the mixed drink on top of expresso. Sugar and lime zest on edge of glasses.
“Caribbean Dream” – a warm drink consisting of:
- Espresso
- Rum flavoured chocolate
- Cream
- Sugar
- Coriander leaves
- Nutmeg
You brew the espresso on the rum flavoured chocolate and stir them together. Cream, coriander and sugar are warmed with the steamer and poured into the espresso. Nutmeg drizzled on top.Served with chocolate coated pear slices.
For the queen’s theme the icelandic team choosed to make
“Hot Safari” – a warm drink consisting of:
- Espresso
- Maccaroons
- Sugar
- Milk
- Safran
- Cloves
The espresso is brewed directly into the cup upon a maccaroon and sugar. Milk is frothed with negull and safran and then pored into the espresso. Sugar and crushed cloves on edge of glasses.
“Eroticup” – a warm drink consisting of:
- Espresso
- Mint flavoured chocolate
- Coconut milk
- Low fat milk
- Peppermint leaves.
Espresso is stirred together with mint chocolate. You steam both milks and peppermint leaves together and poured into the espresso. Served with coconut cream puffs.
“Hekla” – a warm drink consisting of:
- Espresso
- Syrup made from mountain grass and anis candysugar
- Cream
- Rosepepper
The espresso is brewed into the syrup. Cream is steamed together with rosepepper pearls. You seperate pearls from the cream when you pour it into the espresso.Glass decoration: creamcheese, red chili and dijon mustard.Served with chocolate coated strawberries.
